Sara L. Julian is a jazz trombonist. Born and raised in southern Indiana, she includes fellow Hoosier jazz musicians J.J. Johnson, Slide Hampton and David Baker as her biggest influences on trombone.
Well traveled, Sara has performed at venues around the country from Boston, Cape Cod and NYC across the Midwest in Indiana and Ohio to the West in San Francisco and Oakland. Some of those places include the House of Blues, Kendall Cafe, The Willow and Ryles in the Boston area and the Living Room and the Kniting Factory in NYC. <third person off>
Currently I’m found at 1400 Bar & Grill in Alameda on Thursday nights and occasionally other nights as announced. Every once in a while you can see me at Cafe International in the Haight on Sundays. Tell you what – I’ll try to update my twitter feed more regularly and you can keep up with me that way.
There’s a whole bunch of academic blah blah blah in there, but I’ve cut that out – hit me up if you want the deets. Right now I’m just focusing on making real music with real people in the present – not trying to recreate history.
Right now I’m sloooooowly developing a one woman show and playing a little jazz, blues, R&B, jump jive, whatev – just hanging out and trying to make music with peeps. Getting paid to make music with peeps is even better, so if you hear of anything, let me know.
<third person on> You can hear Sara on the Zoe Lewis release, “Fishbone Wishbone Funnybone” along with Roxanne Layton, Kate Wolf, Sylvia Richard and Julie Wolf. You can also hear her on Andrea Wirth and the Dirty Lil’ Funhavers CD, “Something to Hold On To”. Check out iTunes and CD Baby.
