Back In The Saddle Again
November 3, 2007
Got the horn back Thursday and my slide is good as new. Dick Akright down at Best Instrument Repair Company is the man to go to in the Bay Area when you need some work done on your horn.
I have a page on Facebook which I resisted doing for the longest time. I must say I am pretty impressed with it – I see it as a great way to network with my fellow Indiana University School of Music Alumni, like Justin J. Smith who found me through the Indiana Network a few days ago. Justin and I worked together in the Cook Music Library (my alter ego is that of a Music Librarian, and a damn good one!) and we also performed together in David Baker’s Jazz Ensemble. Justin is a great trumpet player and I’m looking forward to being in touch with him as well as some other cats that I went to school with in the future.
For those of you that remember my ramblings a couple years ago about running away on a cruise ship gig, Justin is the guy that works in the industry that I know. I ended up not pursuing that option because I had an apartment in NYC to contend with and some other issues that needed dealing with. Plus I have always had motion sickness and I was concerned about how I would do on a boat. I puke on the Whale Watch boat. With Dramamine. But I’m digressing.
Soon I’ll put an appearances list up on the side. So far it looks like I don’t have anything until December – just rehearsals through November. Speaking of which, I have one later today so I need to get it together.
